What if a cortex becomes a tree — piece for PNDS Rosella Hightower
ABOUT THE WORK
This piece was created to follow the theme "Rêver pour grandir" and was commissioned to be conceptually linked to The Nutcracker. It explores the metaphor of the cortex as the protective skin of a tree—a nurturing layer that both shelters growth and eventually peels away. The choreography delves into questions of identity, independence, and loss: If the cortex leaves the tree, can it become something else? Will it grow into the same tree or transform entirely?
Developed for the students of PNSD Rosella Hightower, this piece is an artistic reflection on transformation and transition. It unfolds from the child's perspective, portraying the process of stepping away from the family's protective influence, embracing uncertainty, and forging an individual path.
