Bright landscapes, forgotten scents — four folk dances of Friuli, performed in the landscape they come from.




ABOUT THE WORK
Building on the research opened by Forgotten notions, this dance film — made with UGF, the union of Friulian folk groups — works at the intersection of folk tradition and contemporary expression. I grew up inside a folk group; the film is a way of asking how the past and the present can still inform one another.

It draws on four distinct folk dances — Torototele of Lucinico, Poti me dö po Lipjë of Resia, Bal dal Siblot of Aviano, Roseane of Capriva. The dancers become living sculptures: the delicate hand gestures of Torototele against the primal rhythm of Poti me dö po Lipjë, the swift footwork of Bal dal Siblot against the slow fluidity of Roseane.

Costumes and accessories carry the storytelling — simple cuts, natural tones drawn from the landscape of mountain, rock, water, vineyard and red earth, each dance marked by a mask reimagined from traditional attire. Folklore not preserved, but translated.
