Forgotten notions
site specific performance for “KurzenachtderKultur”
ABOUT THE WORK
In collaboration with Museum Pfalzgalerie and Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, this site-specific performance was created for “KurzenachtderKultur”. Featuring four dancers, the piece draws inspiration from the traditional folkloric song "Schiarazula Marazula", a musical relic from my native region, specifically recreated for the occasion. This haunting tune, with roots in rural ritual and Pentecostal-sabbatical practices, serves as the foundation for a exploration of memory, mythology, and communal rites.
The performance unearths forgotten gestures and rituals, reimagining the song’s historical context—an invocation of rain, a cleansing of villages, and an ancient connection to the natural world. Through movement, the dancers embody the cyclical nature of these traditions, evoking the ritualistic gestures described in historical records.
